WizMug, A History
What is WizMug?
The Wizards & Muggles club is the largest of its kind at any United States university. This club allows almost 200 members at the College of William and Mary to come together in their love of Harry Potter. Through interactive club activities, competitions for a House Cup, and different festivities - including our annual Yule Ball and Deathday Party - witches and wizards of all kinds bring magic to life.
What is the House Cup?
Throughout the school year, all four houses - Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw - gather points, whether by winning activities during meetings, writing fanfiction, wearing house colors to meetings, or bringing food for club members to share. At the end of the spring semester, the points are tallied up - and the winning house gains eternal glory...well, at least until the next Spring.
What do we do during meetings?
While the magic of this book series can't literally be brought to campus, our club comes as close as truly possible. Our meetings, held on Wednesdays at 8:00 in Blow Hall 332, are always entertaining, creative, and interactive. We normally use Muggle games (such as spelling bees, scavenger hunts, and pictionary) as a framework, and add a Harry Potter twist. We've also had wonderful fun during our fanfiction-writing nights, skit nights inspired by lines from the books, A Very Potter Musical nights, and much more!
